Event Details:

Did you find yourself fascinated by Tiktok shanty singing during lockdown? Ever wondered what songs like ‘Bound for South Australia’ are really all about?

Then come aboard the original 19th-century sailing ship James Craig and discover the secret lives of sea shanties!

Learn how shanties were used in the Age of Sail, what the nautical words and phrases actually mean, and try out a shanty at sea for yourself!

Backed by the musical and historical knowledge of shanty singers Forty Degrees South and the Redfern Shanty Club, this three-hour harbour cruise will introduce you to the different types of shanties used at sea, the stories behind them, and give you a real hands-on experience at using shanties on a working tall ship!
