She is the oldest tug in working order in Australia.

In 1968 she was announced as beyond economical repair and was to be disposed for scrap. Realising her historical important to Sydney Harbour, Sydney Heritage Fleet purchased her and began a subsequent five year- restoration to fully operational.

The Waratah’s authentic restoration has gained the Fleet world-wide recognition for historic ship preservation.
